Fair-4H-2k13

Last year at fair (2013) was a blast! They may have not had a lot of good rides and brought a good carnival to town, but it was still fun being apart of it!

I joined 4H last year and decided that I wanted to show at fair. My mom let me get two Rabbits. I fell in love with them the moment I saw them. When I got them I originally named them Daisy Mae and Tilly. The funny thing is, the people that I got the rabbits from told me they were does. So, the day I showed my rabbits at fair, in the Sr. Doe division, the judge yells out, “We’ve got two bucks in here!” My face turned bright red. I looked at my mom and she was just as shocked as I was, but she started laughing. Thank goodness the judge was nice and let me try again and show them as Sr. Bucks! I ended up placing second to last and last since they were the wrong gender.

Last summer I really got into horses. My mentor owns two horses, Beau and Misty. I had been practicing with Beau, as he was the one I was going to be showing. I wanted to do barrels. Barrels is when you ride the horse in an arena and there are barrels set up like a T and you have to ride around them, trying to get the fastest time.  My mom didn’t let me do barrel racing as it was my first year and I didn’t have very much experience. I decided to do show halter instead. I’m glad I chose to do that because I placed 6th out of 14 in my first year of showing!

I didn’t only show animals, but I made things to show too! I made a crayon art canvas. The crayon art canvas is where you glue crayons onto a canvas and use a blow dryer to melt them so it runs down the canvas. I also made my own painting that I named “The Lorax Trees” because it looked like the top of the lorax trees, and I showed a drawing that I made of myself. I got blue ribbons on all three of them. I made a fleece tie blanket too. It was zebra material and I also got a blue ribbon on that!

The last two night of the fair they had bus races. I think that’s what made everyone come to the fair that night, there literally wasn’t a place to sit, and the stands were packed. After the bus races they had fireworks, and after the fireworks they had a band playing in the beer garden.

I’m glad I joined 4H, because it is a very good opportunity and a good experience! The people in my group helped me through the things I didn’t understand. My 4H group has loyalty and a lot of respect. I’m glad to be a 4H Fayette Firecracker member!
