“The week that I got my appendix out”

It all started in second grade May 14th 2007 after school when Roy and I were playing basketball. I was going to shoot but he tried to steal it, so I moved the ball out of reach. Only I should have let him because he accidently hit me where my appendix was at. It hurt a lot so we quit and went inside to have some pizza. After that when it was almost time for bed, I put on my Bugs Bunny Dallas Cowboys jammies. But when I was going up the stairs I looked at where Roy hit me and you could see the bruise growing, and all I said was my side hurts. I fainted and I fell down the stairs, and I did not wake up for about a forty five minutes after. My mom took me to the hospital and when I woke up and I was surrounded by a bunch of nurses. When the doctor came in he said I already had appendicitis, my brother just sped up the process. The doctor began pressing on my stomach asking me where it hurt - he pressed down on my bruise and I folded in half and accidently kicked.

That was when he knew that it was just about to explode. He told the nurse to put an IV in me, but I wasn’t going to let her because I have been afraid of needles since I was a baby. Another thing I was scared about was she looked like she was almost 90 years old, because her were shaking as she tried to put the IV into my left arm. As she was putting it in she jabbed too hard and so I jerked in reaction to it - but it was in. All of the sudden I look down at my arm and it was blue from my hand to just about my shoulder. The doctor said my vein had exploded but everything was going to be fine, that was when I knew was lying because I couldn’t use my arm for an hour afterward. The nurses finally put me in my bed and I slept for about 10 minutes before I had to go to the bathroom. I mean had to go about every 10 to 15 minutes, so I didn’t get any sleep for close to 3 days. The next day when I had my first lunch served all they gave was super healthy stuff. I’m talking like spinach, white rice, mandarin oranges, and some weird mushy thing. Also the person on the other side of the room would not stop talking and he tried to get out the bed because he didn’t want to take something so they had to hold him down.

The day after that around 5 pm, the doctor came in and said I get to drink something “special” it was yellow but strangely tasted like lemonade. I had to drink about 1 liter of it and I was just about done with it – until it all came out. I started to cry because I thought I had to drink the same amount again, but I never had to. Then they put me onto a wheelchair they called the Hummer to a room with a bunch of screens in. The nurses told me that I had to hold a big thing to see if I was strong enough. I was a piece of lead that I to hold for a Computed Tomography scan. I turns out that I wasn’t strong enough so they put lighter vest of lead on me. When I was finally done with that stuff they put me on a gurney and gave me a shot, then I was going down the hall. The next thing that happened was weird, the reason I say is I went past all of my classmates. I had totally forgotten that the field trip to the hospital was today. The doctor said we had some time and asked if I wanted to talk to my friends.

I said no because I was already half way passed out, but my mom said that I should and so I did. I talked for maybe about 3 minutes before they said it was time. I woke up about 2 hours after the surgery and my mom asked if I liked the Operating Room. I didn’t know what she was talking about because I didn’t remember anything; my mom said that the kids supposed to see the OR next but I was in the room. After I got out the hospital I had to stay home for about the next week and a half. The thing that I got the most was cards. I got some from relatives, friends, and my 2nd grade class. I still have them to this day because my mom made me keep them. So that was my week that I got my appendix out.

I remember this in second grade. Our class turned the corner and saw you in a hospital bed. I liked how you described this and added a lot of details. Nice job!
