My Experience at a Concert

By: Katrina M

I remember the week during the summer of 2013 when I went to two different concerts. The first concert I went to was with a friend. The tickets were really cheap, about $35 each, so I got a ticket for both my friend Taylor and I as a birthday present for her.

The concert tour was called: The Summerfest Tour. It had five different bands performing; Keep it Cute, The Ready Set, Breathe Carolina, T-Mills, and We The Kings, all of them being our favorite. Talk about luck.

When we first showed up at the theater, because this was a stand up concert, we had to push and shove our way through a huge crowd of people just to get to the middle of the crowd. We really wanted to be up front but when Keep it Cute came out on stage, everyone got closer together, putting my friend and I closer to the stage.

Keep it Cute instantly started the concert. They were amazing at getting everyone in the crowd excited and even performed a cover on the song; Cry With You, originally by Hunter Hays. But once Keep it Cute got done performing; it took awhile before the next band came on stage. At first I thought it was for just for this one time, but I realized that each band needed to take their things off the stage and the next band needed to put their things onto the stage.

The next band that performed was The Ready Set, the band we were originally planning on seeing. Both Taylor and I were talking about how we have to be up front, right by the stage so that we could get a high-five from Jordan, the lead singer. That’s what we were hoping to do, but it didn’t turn out like that. No matter how hard we tried to get closer to the stage, other people in the crowd just kept pushing us back. We eventually just gave up when we ended up in the middle of the crowd but closer to the stage than we were before.

The entire time The Ready Set was performing, we both knew all the lyrics to the songs they sang. I remember there were two guys around our age standing behind us and after The Ready Set was done performing and exiting off the stage, one of them said to the other, “They knew all the songs.” It was funny but at the same time a little weird because both Taylor and I heard them, so we turned around at the same time and said “Yeah we did,” in a joking matter. After that, we all ended up laughing and talking for the rest of the time while waiting for the next band to come up on stage.

Breathe Carolina came on stage after The Ready Set. Personally, I think that Breathe Carolina had the best songs to perform during a stand up concert.  They performed fast and upbeat songs, making it a lot of fun to be in the crowd. T-Mills was supposed to perform with everyone else, but the lead singer got sick and couldn’t perform at the show.

The last to perform was We The Kings; they also had the perfect songs to sing during a concert. My favorite song that they sung during the concert was Just Keep Breathing; I think it had the perfect lyrics to match the situation. That was my second concert that I had went to in my entire life and my favorite too.

The second concert I went to that same week was OneRepublic’s Native Album Tour. For this concert instead of bringing Taylor, I brought a girl I’ve known for a really long time named Mariah.

While driving to the theater, we were thinking that OneRepublic would only perform songs from their newest album, Native. We were wrong though, that’s what I really liked about that concert; they did not just sing songs from one album.

They performed songs from all three albums they have, but mostly songs from Native. Mostly singing the most popular songs from their first and second albums: Dreaming Out Loud and Waking Up.

The concert was pretty amazing, considering the fact that Ryan Tedder, the lead singer, sounds even more amazing in real life than he already does. They ended the concert with the song If I Lose Myself and they brought out huge beach balls that lit up whenever you hit them. Then they made the room pitch black and started flashing bright lights everywhere. Defiantly the best way to end the concert.
