Fair 2013

We are finally getting ready for the county fair and the pigs are washed and all of our projects are in the truck and we are ready to go. Once we got to the county fair there are trucks and trailers everywhere, you can barely get into the fairgrounds. The pigs are squealing, the cows are mooing, the chickens are clucking and the sheep and goats are just being really loud. There are so many animals there that it is overwhelming. We had to go into the swine barn to bed the pigs so that they are ready for fair and so that they are comfortable and rested up for the Wednesday swine show. We put there food and water dishes/buckets in there. Then we headed home with all of the things that we didn’t need but that we brought just in case.

It is finally Monday and the fair is starting, there are crowds of people

coming in to look at all of the animals and they are looking at all of the 4-h projects and things that people made on there own time. Family and friends like to look at all of the ribbons and all of the booths. Our clubs booth is completely full of projects, ribbons and foods that people have made. Many people surrounded the booths to see what things that there son/daughter, granddaughter/grandson etc. made.

Since there was that fire that burnt down the beef barn there was a whole lot of planning that they had to do and a lot of things that people had to switch around and change. So now all of the beef cows have to be in the old/ used beef barn that doesn’t have much room in it. I hope that they make a new barn that is better and that has better ventilation for all of the cows. The Goat barn needs a little work and needs to be improved on since there is just enough room for all the goats. The sheep barn is nice and clean and there is enough room for all of the sheep that are there. The fair board is going to make some changes to the Swine barn since there is just barely enough room and it is so hot in there cause its so hot and it’s all crowded. The wash racks where the pigs get washed at and are getting ready for the day of the show, the gates fall down and then the pigs go wild (which was my problem last year and my pig was running up and down the isles of the barn). That was not a fun thing to do and it is also not a very good thing to have to chase them until they stop. Finally my dad caught it and he put it back in the pen, We didn’t even attempt on putting it back in the wash racks and to try and deal with that again.

On Thursday it was about 80-90ºF outside, Me and Emily were so bored so we decided that we should get a group of people to have a water fight with us. There was water flying in every direction and everyone was soaking wet, and a bunch of people in the group didn’t have extra clothes to change into so they were walking around in soaking wet clothes. It was really fun just to have that memory that we will remember forever. Me and Emily went back into the pig barn and we ate cookies and chips that we had brought with us to have as a snack. We also went to the “Kiddy Barn Yard” they had a horse, baby pigs and a sow, chicks and chickens, ducklings, goats, sheep, and a calf. They were all so much fun to be able to pet and to hold the smaller animals and to just be able to play with them.

It is finally Saturday and we get to bring our animal’s home or they get to go on “The Truck”. I would rather take my animals home any day then to put them on there, The truck goes to the locker but as they are loading the animals onto it they prod them with a big jolt of electricity that shocks them so they squeal and just make the biggest noise ever so you feel so bad for loading them on there. That is the worst thing ever Emily and I were just watching them as they were being shocked and we felt so bad for them. But if you can’t find a time to take them to the locker you have to put them on the truck or they will spread a really bad disease that can kill any of the other pigs that you have. We took ours to the locker by our self because I didn’t want to see them go on the truck. That is the hardest thing ever since you spent all your time with them and then they just leave it’s like your saying good bye to a pet.

Fair has been so much fun this year and I think that it will be good next year also. There will be more people showing and more animals and, they are making many changes some are good and some are bad. We will just have to see what fair 2014 will bring.
