Prosecution Opening Statements



The opening statement purpose is to convince the jury that a crime has been committed. The opening statement should be a word processed document that covers in detail the following items:

  • State the crime(s) committed by the defendant(s). Explain to the court the crimes in detail.
  • Explain a theme for the argument. For example, greed, stupidity, or fraud. Explain the rationale for such an argument.
  • Ethical arguments must be used. This means pertaining to "right" and "wrong." Use your sense of morality when developing your arguments.
  • Use persuasive strategies: Give Precedent, Predict Results, Call for Fairness, and Respond to Objections.
