On Sept. 26, 2008, the Valley 8th grade class will be taking a field trip to Fort Atkinson for the annual Rendezvous. The students will enjoy many fun activities and new experiences. Not only is this event enjoyable, but it is also educational.

Students will be able to go through old structures built in the pioneer era. During the tour, the students will be educated about the fort structures and what they were used for. The buildings were all created with special designs to help with certain tasks. Tour guides will explain the construction and uses of the buildings. The students will also be able to view several antique displays in the State Museum.

At the Rendezvous, the 8th graders will have a chance to taste and purchase homemade root beer, fry bread, and other treats. They will also be able to view and buy many hand-crafted knick-knacks such as purses, arrowheads, and jewelry. Each item is unique in its own way and tells a very interesting story.

The students are able to watch and participate in many events such as the shooting of the cannon, musket demonstration, hawk & knife throw, pottery making, flint and steel fire starting, basket and rope making, and blacksmithing.

The Rendezvous is an experience unlike any other. The students get to see and do things that many never have before. Because of the field trip they are able to experience the educational and memorable events of the Fort Atkinson Rendezvous.
