Writing Process Notes

A Closer Look at the 5 Steps of the Writing Process:
1. Types of Prewriting
            *Brainstorming
            *Webbing/Clustering/Mapping
            *Freewriting
            *Interest Inventory
            *Picture Prompt
            *Graphic Organizers

2. Outline
Can be a conventional outline or a less conventional one.
Conventional Example:                                       Unconventional Example:
I.
            A.                                                            *see model here
            B.
II.
            A.
                        1.
                                    a.
                                    b.
                        2.
                        3.
            B.
            C.
III.

4. Rough Draft
This is when you actually take the ideas you have been working on and organizing, and put them into writing.

5. Types of Editing/Revising
            1. Self
            2. Peer
*Remember...
REVISING is looking at the "big picture" parts of your writing like "Does the paragraph include transitions to make it flow well?" or "Does the hook get my attention and lead into the introduction?"
EDITING is looking at smaller details like grammar, usage, mechanics to polish your piece.

5. Final Draft
            *Typed & Double-spaced (if printing)
            *Blue/black ink (if printing)
*Normal font with 12 pt. Type size
            *Name/class/title/date in top right corner
