What is a “Twitter” and how do I “Tweet”?

By Kyle L

Did you know that you can find out what Chad OchoCinco is eating for breakfast, what Miley Cirus is listening to on her Ipod, and what your best friend is planning for his Friday night. In the span of about five seconds all this can be found immediately upon logging on to your Twitter account.

Twitter is an up and coming social networking site providing a new way of keeping track of your favorite celebrities and friends.  Everyone can create his or her own account by logging on to Twitter.com. Once you have created an account you choose who you would like to receive updates from. For example, I currently have one hundred and one people from whom I receive updates. For me, ninety percent of them are celebrities from around the world. I also receive updates from some of my local friends. Twitter users can also choose who receives updates from or who “follows” you. Add your friends and they can see what your doing as you update your status or “tweet.” Another option is to block unwanted followers. You may also upload pictures to personalize your account and make it fit your personality. Recently many Valley students have joined this exciting new site and rumor has it that even some of the faculty and staff have created their very own accounts. Like Facebook, Twitter’s popularity seems to be bridging the age gap with users of all ages.

Many of you have heard the buzz about Twitter, but maybe just weren’t sure what it was all about. Those people that are still on the fence should give it a try, and maybe you’ll find that it’s a pretty “tweet” new site to keep you entertained.
