Valley holds 2010 FFA Sub-District contest

            On Feb. 26  nine local schools arrived at Valley to participate in the Sub-District contest. The schools that participated in the contest were: North Fayette, Oelwein, Sumner-Fredrickberg, Decorah, Crestwood, New Hampton, Tripoli, South Winn, and Valley.

            There were a total of nine different areas of competition. In the Ag Sales department Valley received a gold rating. The schools advancing to district competition in this category are Decorah and Oelwein, with Valley as an alternate. In Extemporaneous Speaking, Valley received a gold rating and will be advancing along with Oelwein. Decorah earned the alternate position.  In Conduct of Meetings Valley received a silver rating. Decorah and Oelwein will be advancing with North Fayette as the alternate. In the Job Interview category Valley received a silver rating while Oelwein and Sumner-Fredricksberg will be advancing with North Fayette as the alternate. In Creed Speaking Valley received a gold rating with Decorah, Oelwein, and Sumner-Fredricksberg advancing while South Winn will be the alternate. In Parliamentary Procedure Valley received a silver rating. Decorah and North Fayette will be advancing with Oelwien the alternate. Valley did not have an entry for Program of Activities. Decorah and Oelwein will be advancing in this category with North Fayette as the alternate. In Public Speaking Valley received a silver rating with Decorah and Oelwein advancing to districts with South Winn as the alternate. In Radio Broadcasting Valley received a silver rating while Decorah and Sumner-Fredricksberg advanced with Oelwein as the alternate.

             Congratulations to all the students who participated and good luck to those advancing to districts. A huge thank you goes out to the community members and students. Approximately 20 students volunteered and 35 community volunteers came to judge the contest. The contest could not have been put on with out them. The Valley FFA chapter is extremely grateful for the time everyone donated to make the evening a success.
