Teacher Feature: Week 2

By: Megan B

The students at Valley are greatly appreciative of the staff, however most of the students and community members at Valley do not know much about the Valley staff. To remedy this issue, each week the multimedia class will select a few staff members to write about to give the community a peek inside the lives of the Valley staff.

This week’s focus is on the Physical Education department. Mr. Levirgil Monroe teaches P.E. and Health in the secondary department and Miss Holly Mohs teaches P.E. in the elementary and Health in the junior high.

LeVirgil Monroe, Valley physical education teacher and coach, was born on Sept. 15, 1961 in Decorah, Iowa. He has five siblings and attended high school at North High. In high school Mr. Monroe participated in wrestling and football. After high school LeVirgil went to college at Upper Iowa University. In Mr. Monroe’s free time he enjoys fishing and woodworking. His favorite movie is Vision Quest and he enjoys listening to country music. Mr. Monroe is married to his wife Marie, and has three children: Morgan, Lincoln, and Madison. He decided to become a P.E. teacher because of his own high school P.E. teacher, Jim Guyer. Mr. Monroe has taught at Valley for twenty-five years, where he chose to teach here because the school was close to home and because he enjoys the students at Valley

Holly Mohs, teaches Physical Education, Health, and the Learning Center. She was born on Dec. 31, 1980 in Postville Iowa.  Miss Mohs has three siblings: Heidi, Branden and Heather and attended high school at MFL Mar-Mac where she participated in basketball. After high school she attended Wartburg College. Miss Mohs is very family oriented; her family members are her “best friends, support system, and the greatest people I know.”  In her free time she enjoys playing or watching sports, reading, taking walks, photography, watching movies, and home improvement projects. Her favorite movie is The Holiday because it is funny and heartwarming. Miss Mohs enjoys all types of music, depending on what mood she is in. She also enjoys spending time with her rottweiler named Payton.  Miss Mohs chose to become a P.E. teacher because she has always enjoyed sports, and she has been teaching at Valley for six years. Miss Mohs chose to teach at Valley because while she was already coaching here luckily a teaching job opened up that allowed her to keep coaching at Valley.

Valley Community School is extremely greatful of the excellent physical education teachers that we have at Valley. The school wouldn’t be the same without them.
