Teacher Feature

            Ms. Marty Berda and Mr. Alan Tweedy are the science teachers at Valley. Both teachers are very experienced in their field, and Valley is privileged to have them in the science department.

            Ms. Berda was born in Hammond, Indiana. She has four sisters and two brothers. She attended T.F. South High School. In high school she participated in drama and intramural sports. Ms. Berda graduated from DePaul University in Chicago, Illinois. In her free time she enjoys cooking, baking, gardening, reading, sewing and some crafting. Ms. Berda enjoys all kinds of music, but she especially enjoys ethnic and classical music. Ms. Berda has been teaching for over twenty years with fourteen of those years at Valley. She chose to be a science teacher because she has always loved nature and science.

            Mr. Alan Tweedy was born in Port Washington, Wisconsin on June 13, 1953. Mr. Tweedy attended Oelwein High School where he participated in football and track. After high school he attended William Penn College, the University of Northern Iowa, and Upper Iowa University. He is married to his wife Deb and has three children: Joshua, Seth, and Marcus. Mr. Tweedy also has 2 pet labs. In his free time he enjoys riding his motorcycle and hunting. His favorite movie is Rudy. Mr. Tweedy has been teaching for 25 years with 24 of those years at Valley. He teaches science because he enjoys the subject. Mr. Tweedy chose to teach at Valley because it has a reputation of being a good school with a good community. Valley is also close to Waukon where his wife teaches.

            Both of these teachers are talented and knowledgeable in their field. The students at Valley are privileged to have Ms. Berda and Mr. Tweedy at our school.
