Teacher Feature: Week 1

By Chelsi B

The focus for this week’s teacher feature is on two coaches that have played great roles in the athletic programs at Valley.  Mr. Chad Beermann is the varsity football coach and Mr. Lowell Lyngaas is the cross country and girls track coach.

Chad Beermann was born on December 31, 1970 in Cherokee, Iowa.  He has two brothers and one stepbrother.  While attending high school at North Fayette, he participated in football, track, German club, and student council.  After high school, Chad attended Central College.  In his free time, he enjoys reading, following football, and studying history.  His favorite movie is Band of Brothers and he enjoys listening to alternative country.  Mr. Beermann’s wife, Amy, and stepdaughter, MacKenzie, are of great importance to him, as well as his black lab.  Chad decided to coach football because he has an extreme passion for the sport.  He was hired seventeen years ago by Pat Trewin as an assistant coach, but now holds the head coach position.

Lowell Lyngaas was born on June 7, 1954 in Postville, Iowa.  He has one sister and attended high school at Valley where he participated in football, basketball, track, drama, music, and student council.  After high school, Lowell attended Luther College.  Lyngaas says that he enjoys doing anything that involves creating.  He also enjoys spending time with his dog.  Although he doesn’t have a favorite movie, he listens to any type of music but rap.  Ever since junior high, Lowell’s peers have called him “coach.”  Now, twenty-five years after an opportunity opened for him to coach, he is an important member of the Valley coaching staff.

The athletes at Valley are extremely appreciative of the hard work and dedication that these two men have put into coaching.  It is their type of commitment that makes Valley athletics so superior.
