Presentation Rubric

Page history last edited by PBworks 16 years, 3 months ago

Your presentation is graded on the following five areas:

Content

  • This is your information that you are presenting.  Hopefully you covered all of your bases!

Eye Contact

  • Pretend there is a giant triangle in the room and look to all points.
  • Look people in the eye.
  • Come up for air once in a while!

Voice/Volume

  • Speak like you are trying to reach the back corners of the room!  This is going to be a lot louder than you normally speak in class.
  • Project your voice up and out to the class (this means don't speak while looking down at your notes).
  • Do not be afraid of pauses!  Pauses are a normal part of speech and are not all bad.  It is only if the pause is too long that it is no longer effective.
  • Speak at a "normal" rate.  Many people get nervous and talk to fast for the audience to hear or keep up.  Don't be afraid to slow down and take your time.  On the other hand, don't go so slow that you bore your audience to sleep.
  • Use inflection in your tone and do not speak in a monotone voice.  Anyone ever seen Ferris Bueller's Day Off?  Do not speak like Ferris's teacher!

Posture

  • Stand up straight and comfortable.
  • Do not slouch or rock back and forth.
  • Do not overdo a gesture like: twisting your hair, tapping your fingers, tapping your feet, rocking the podium, etc.  Make sure you are not chewing gum!
  • Do not lean on the podium.
  • Do not keep hands in your pockets.

Visual Aids

  • Remember that you need to have 2 visual aids that correspond to your presentation.
  • Simply printing off a picture on a plain piece of paper is not a good visual aid.
  • Use several pictures and some brief summary information to make a poster on tagboard.
  • Design your own diarama based on your topic.
  • Dress up like the person you are presenting about.
  • Create a powerpoint presentation using some of your information.
  • Make an ABC book about your topic.
  • There are many other unique ideas to choose from!

and ...

you must submit a copy of your essay with complete in-text citation and works cited!
