Non-chorus members set to participate in learning activities

By Kenna L

The week of March 15-20 the Valley chorus memebers will be in Washington D.C. on the chorus trip that takes place every four years. All members in the chorus have the option of attending the trip, but are not required to go. During this time, approximately seventy students remain at the high school.

Supplemental activities to take the place of regular classes are still in the planning process and are set to be scheduled for the remaining high school student body. It is likely to involve two days of mini courses that will introduce as activities they may not normally experience. Ideas so far include: detailing a vehicle, woodworking, beading, yoga, and turkey calling among many others. The classes will most likely run ninety minutes and will be facilitated by staff or a community member.

Also still in the planning process is the scheduling of two days of off campus activities. Details are not finalized, but it is likely that students will be visiting the Luther College planetarium and the Decorah fish hatchery, with other off-campus activities still being discussed.

Although nothing is finalized, planning has become a group effort. Much of the Valley staff has been involved, and student input has also influenced planning. Staff members hope to have plans set soon for those not attending the trip so they may have a fun yet education week.
