“The Trip that took a wild Turn”

He was after us. I didn’t know what to do. All I could do was get our stuff, throw it into the van quickly, and get my family all in. They hadn’t seen him yet, but I had. His face was so pale, like nothing was even there. I was so terrified that I was shaking really bad. I had my license so I stuck the key into the ignition, knowing he was coming for us, and tried to turn it. I sat there for a minute, starting to panic because the car wouldn’t start. All of a sudden I heard a twig snapping not to far from the car. He was coming, and he was close!

On a sunny Tuesday afternoon, my family and I were packing up to go on vacation to a log cabin out in the woods for a couple of days. My parents couldn’t take the city anymore; it was terribly stressful with work and all. You see, my parents have really difficult and time-consuming jobs, but they pay really well. Since my parents are always at work, they don’t really see my brother (who’s 8) and I that much, so we all pretty much agreed to go, except me of course. I don’t really get along with my family very much and I am one of those kids that grew up with the city life, saying as though I’m 14. I am my own person, mostly in my room listening to music with my headphones on, the blinds shut, my little lamp on my desk turned on bright, and a good scary novel in my hand. I only really go out for school, food, or some other chore I have to do, but otherwise I am “holed up in my room”, as my mom puts it. So I wasn’t to excited to hear that we were all going on a trip together in a cabin.

I had only three days to pack the stuff I wanted, so I got the basics, for me anyway. My clothes (which included my black skinny jeans, some other skinny jeans, band t-shirts, pajamas, my favorite pair of chucks, and a whole bunch of sweatshirts, etc.), my books (all my scary novels that I hadn’t read), my make-up/personal hygiene items, my electronics (headphones, Ipod, phone, earbuds, and all the chargers), and my blankets/pillows including my favorite stuffed bunny that I have had since I was 2, so it is kind of torn up. My mom kind of disapproved of my clothing choice, but I didn’t really care. It’s not like anyone would be seeing us anyway, we would be alone together in a little cabin. Also, she just doesn’t get me. She wants me to be that perfect little girly girl, but I can’t, I would rather where a trash bag then those types of clothes. Anyway, lets just get back to the story.

After the three days had passed and it was time to go, I got off the bus from school with my headphones on, and walked up to our door. It was locked like usual because my brother and I were always the first ones home, so I grabbed my key from my bag and slid it into the lock. Turning it lightly I could hear the little click and I swung the door open, walking inside with my brother trailing behind me. Once we got inside and shut the door, I slid my headphones off a ways and reminded him today we would be taking our little trip and he would need to finish packing by the time our parents got home. Then I got a text on my phone from mom saying that they would be a little late because of work, but we should still be ready. I didn’t answer like usual, but since I had extra time, I went up to my room, gathered my stuff in one big pile, grabbed my book, put my headphones on again, laid down on my bed with a plop, and flipped to page 286 where I remembered I was.

After what seemed like an hour or two, I had finished my book and had drifted to sleep with my music playing in my head, and I didn’t even realize it. I felt a tap on my shoulder, which I figured would be my mom, but it was my brother.  He asked me where our parents where and I forgot to tell him that they would be a little late, since I realized it was only 5:30 pm, so I told him they would be here soon, and watched him walk back out my room, reminding him to shut my door all the way. Once he was all the way out, I pressed play with my music, and drifted back to sleep.

The second time I got tapped on the shoulder, I looked at who it was and it was my mom, and then looked at the clock, which said 6:30 pm, it was time to go. I drearily got out of my bed and picked up my book that had fell on my floor during my sleep, and put it in the pile to go back to the library with four other books I had already finished. I took my headphones off my head, resting them around my neck, paused my music, and grabbed my pile of stuff all in one trip. I went down the stairs to the living room stuff in hand and walked out the front door of our house. I went over to the van, lifted my stuff into the trunk, but first I took out 2 books for the ride there. I really never could get my face out of books, unless they were for school, then I hated them! I always had to have my stuff on top in the trunk though, because I preferred my stuff to not get damaged and my parents really didn’t care.

I gathered up my books in my arms and climbed into the back seat of the van where I always sat, put my knees up against the back of the seat ahead of me, put my headphones back on, pressed play, and grabbed the book that seemed most interesting. It took a while for the rest of my family to pile into the van, but we eventually got a rolling. Eventually, I don’t know how long, I drifted to sleep with the van in motion. I thought it would be a peaceful and calm trip, where I could just sit and read the whole time. I was terribly wrong!

When I woke up, we were at the log cabin, which seemed like it was out of nowhere. I stepped out of the car, and I just felt weird, like I had a sense that something terrible was here. I went around back to grab my stuff and once I had it all in my hands, I turned around and jumped! I swore I had seen a face or something in the woods. It freaked me out a little so I quickly went into the cabin. I walked in and it was huge! It was so fancy that I almost fell over, even our house couldn’t compare. I searched the entire cabin and eventually found a little room that I wanted to use. I set my stuff down in the middle of the room, and immediately I didn’t like it. I knew I had to stay in there now, but I felt like someone was watching me. I turned to my window, and there he was, a huge tall looming figure that just stood there. He had no face, and slowly he put a sign on the window. It was a picture of eyes, and said “Always watching, No eyes.” I was so terrified I couldn’t even move from the window, but slowly he turned and stalked away into the forest.

When I fully couldn’t see him I ran out into the living room, screaming for my parents, but when I told them, they didn’t believe me and told me that I was reading to much scary books and that I should quit. I just snorted and stalked off back to my room, if they didn’t want to believe me, fine, I wouldn’t even bother showing them the sign. They probably would think I put that there on purpose anyway, so I wasn’t even going to try. When I got back to my room, I quickly shut my blinds and sat on the bed thinking. I definitely wasn’t going to unpack anything until I really needed to. I was going to keep it all in my bags just in case that thing came back and I would need to hurry and grab my bags, so I just sat on the bed thinking like that for a while till my brother walked in unexpectedly. All he said was “Laney, I saw him too” and right then, I actually felt a little connection with my brother.

I told him he could be with me in my room, but would have to sleep on my floor because the bed wasn’t big enough. He also kept his stuff all in a neat pile like I instructed because I figured once my parents saw that thing, they would want to leave too. I was getting tired, so I hopped in the bed and grabbed my book. My brother was on the little cot somewhat by me, but he had already fallen asleep. I didn’t really know what to do, so I grabbed my book and started reading without my music this time because it was in my bag, but also because my little brother was in the room and needed to listen for him.

After what seemed like a couple minutes had passed, there was this strange tapping noise on my window. I knew what it was, so I woke my brother and told him to go get our parents and make sure they have everything packed to be ready to throw in the car. I slowly crept to my window, terrified, but I knew I had to do it. I slowly opened the curtains and sure enough, there he was. The tall lean figure, more visible in the light of the moon, had a black suit with a red tie on, and he seemed to be just staring at me. Soon enough he did the exact thing he had done last time. He slowly lifted his hand (or what I figured was his hand, but yet looked like huge claw things) and put another sign on my window. This one had something new on it, and he did that continuously until there were a total of eight different creepy signs all on my window, but you could still see him lurching behind them. I was terrified yet, but I kind of thought it would be cool for my blog back at home, so I quickly got my Ipod out and took a few pictures.

Apparently he didn’t like that, because all of a sudden he began ripping at the window. He tore all the signs apart and what once was a blank face contained a huge mouth full of jagged snarly teeth that threatened to kill anything in its way. Behind me I heard a huge gasp, and I turned around seeing that my parents were standing there with my brother frozen in shock. My brother came running at me telling me that the car was all loaded except for my stuff. I quickly turned around to check on the thing, and I regretted it. Two huge red eyes were becoming visible on the things face, and it began to beat harder on the glass, coming so close to breaking it. I grabbed my stuff and ran out of that room so fast, I’m pretty sure I ran out before my parents, but I can’t remember. I just heard them following me, so I kept running, but I could still hear the glass breaking in that one room I had just been in.

I ran all the way to the van not looking back because I knew what I would see. I threw my stuff in the back seat where everyone else had theirs and got into the front seat. No one argued, instead just got into the back and threw their seat belts on. I grabbed for the key and jammed it into the ignition. I turned it quickly, but nothing happened. I sat there frozen in shock. All of a sudden came a little snap of a twig a little ways from the van, and that scared me into trying again. The van came roaring to life the second time and I wasted no time in putting it in reverse and backing up. There really was not time to turn around, so I just backed up all the way out of the driveway. I could see it running at us then, but suddenly, since I saw it, I couldn’t move anymore. My hands were stuck to the wheel but my foot was still on the brake, holding us where we were. All of a sudden it came to a halt, like it was trapped there or something, but I quickly took advantage of that. I did a huge U-y and spun out of there heading in the direction for home, leaving that thing behind.

After that my family didn’t go on many trips and never encountered anything like that ever again. It took us a while, but eventually everything went back to normal. Me being “holed up in my room” and my parents at work all the time, but that wasn’t so bad. Occasionally I still think about that night and what happened. I still had those pictures, so I did post them on my blog. It got a huge amount of likes and re-blogs and I was famous for a time. Everyone had kept it going around the world sharing and sharing and sharing so much, that it turned into a legend, and I started it all. That legend, that scared me and my family, and is now a world wide thing, is Slenderman!

I enjoyed the horror-like story based around a popular urban legend. I feel like this story would be very popular.
