Elementary students learn trustworthiness
By Joelle D
This year the Valley Elementary is focusing on the Six Pillars of Character. Last Wednesday, the elementary students attended an assembly on these pillars. The six pillars are: trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship. This month they are focusing on trustworthiness. Each pillar has its own color. Purple represents citizenship, red is caring, orange is fairness, yellow is respect, and green is responsibility. Since blue represents trustworthiness, everyone attending the assembly was to wear blue.
Throughout the month K-6 students participated in classroom activities to give students an understanding of the characteristics of being a trustworthy person, such as honesty, integrity, and promise keeping. These activities included: short plays, art activities like poster making, discussions, video clips and song singing.
At this assembly sixth graders presented skits on trustworthiness and the Tiger Pride Awards were also handed out. Students receiving this award were: Derek B, Jordan J, Kyella F, Sean D, Peyton H, Jenna G, Olivia K, Pierce H, Sage M, Riley Magner, Thomas Amundson, Ryin Lehmann, Carson Ward, Megan Chapman, Ashton J, Callie H, Cheyenne K, Kade C, Skyler L, Jordan W, Jared K, Madelin M, Kelvin G, and Madison M. These students were awarded for demonstrating trustworthy behavior throughout the school.
The next pillar they will be focusing on is respect. This pillar focuses on treating others with respect, following the Golden Rule, using good manners, being considerate of others, and more points of being a respectful person.
