Our Vacation At Kalahari Resort

 Dear Journal,

In January of 2012, our family (my sister, my brother, and my mom and dad) went to Kalahari Resorts in Baraboo, Wisconsin. It’s also part of Wisconsin Dells, so it’s a popular tourist attraction. It also has Great Wolf Lodge right next to it, so it’s sort of like a competition between the two. This time, it was our 3rd or 4th year going. The first time we went there, we went with my half brother and grandma. She didn’t go swimming, but she sure had a great time visiting the stores there! I also think that’s the year I had my hair done by a woman who could do corn rows, beads, and threading around the hair (we saw her this year, too). I decided I wanted to do the threading, so I got to of them put in my hair. It was $2 an inch, and I think my hair was 10 inches long back then. It ended up being over $40, but it was worth the 2-hour wait! I swear they lasted half a year! I thought they would come undone in the water, but nope! They stayed right in. The second time we went, we went only with our family and not my grandma and half brother. Not much happened then, we just went swimming, played games, and ate at good restraunts. The last time we went, in January, there were SO many people there! I think it was because they had just recently added a new slide and they were giving a special offer. The new slide is the only slide of its kind indoors in the world! The rest are all outside. There are actually 2 slides, one the drops then curves, and then one that drops straight down. They’re called the Screaming Hyena and the Sahara Sidewinder. They’re both 60 feet in height, and who knows how much in length. Not many people went on it, considering the fact that it is 106 stairs up and almost 4 stories high! My dad and I decided to go on it, even though I was pretty scared. It’s like this: you are in a tube and the worker closes the door. You cross your legs and put your arms behind you like you’re going to look up at the stars. Without knowing when, the worker pushes a button and the floor beneath you disappears. You don’t even have time to scream, and you’re going almost 60 miles per hour. That’s the Sahara Sidewinder. The first time I went on it, I was like, “Holy crap! (Pause) Let’s go again!” I only went on the Sidewinder for fear of dropping like a rock on the Hyena. I went four more times and then two the next day. I think it was one of the scariest rides I have ever been on, besides the Tornado at Adventureland. We stayed for 3 days and 2 nights and enjoyed our time, even though it was packed everywhere we went. If we would have stayed longer, I think it would have been more fun. Especially the gigantic game room where the go-karts, rope course, carousel, and Ferris wheel are. Yes, it is all inside that one building! The Ferris wheel is over 3 stories high, and you can see the whole game room! I would love one of those at my old fair. There is this one water slide (I don’t remember the name) that my sister and I go on so much and we both think it is one of the best rides ever. On the second day we were there, we were about to go on it, when all of the sudden, it stopped! We had to wait 20 minutes for the lifeguard to come and find out what happened. We never found out, so it’s still a mystery to us!

Your writer,

Cassie
